Hello, hello! Welcome to the new ECO Website, which we are proud to offer to you powered by only the energy from the sun. Yep, none of that fossil fuels or biofuels stuff is used to broadcast this page to the internet. Imagine what would happen if the entire world starting to boycott the way business is usually done. Imagine.
This site is brought to you by UNCW ECO, an organization dedicated to improving environmental conditions on the UNCW campus and beyond. We are soooooooooo excited to be online sharing environmental information with you!
WITH THAT SAID:
Here’s something to consider as you browse this site, and hopefully something you can consider starting today, and for the years to come . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
People sometimes forget how important their own thoughts and own opinions really are. If we all began asking our congressmen and representatives, our president and our universities, our friends and passerbys, corporations and countries simple questions like:
Why can’t I by an electric car in the United States when I can in Israel?
What happened to the electric car that GM originally released in the early 1990s?
When will the public begin to carpool and reduce driving time, given that the price per barrel of crude oil is up 400% over the past 8 years?
When will we realize that there are going to be some serious problems when gas costs $7.00 a gallon, and that everything we depend on for living is provided by fossil fuels?
Why are corn-based biofuels so popular when the carbon savings are not there?
Why does Asia have much higher fuel efficiency standards than the United States? And why have there been no marked increases in US fuel efficiency standards since the 1970s?
When are the skeptics of global warming going to stop denying the irrefutable scientific findings from 1,000s of peer-reviewed articles published by innumerable international researchers? (Those like the IPCC, who, by the way, are noble laureates.)
When is the United States going to take climate change seriously?
If you wonder about these things, please let us know. Email us at uncweco@gmail.com and tell us your thoughts. We will post them on this comments page, with your permission.
Here’s a bit of irony for you. Henry Ford once said:
“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
If this rationale worked for the beginnings of the mass-production assembly-line, then can’t it also work for reinventing those assembly lines? How about we use those assembly lines to produce zero emissions vehicles? What about biodegradable products that actually nourish the Earth, rather than produce methane in giant domes of rubbish and dirt?
How about we come together in the words of Henry Ford and tackle, what I believe to be, the most pressing environmental issue on this planet:
