In the spring 2008 semester, ECO tackled the issue of minimal recycling at UNCW.
We drafted a petition that we asked UNCW community members to sign.
The petition was concerned about our deficient recycling effort around campus, with an ultimate
goal of increasing our recycling effort by two methods:
1.) Increase the number of recycling receptacles around campus
2.) To strategically place recycling receptacles in campus locations that make recycling an
easy and convenient thing for EVERYONE to do.
Our petition received a great response. We began collaborating with Kathleen Miller of
UNCW Recycling Services, which allowed ECO to reach our goal of revamping the
unimpressive lack of recycling efforts across campus.
In order to maintain these new receptacles, Zach Martin helped Kathleen Miller manage these receptacles.
Zach started helping out not only because of his desire to promote more recycling on campus,
but also be we experienced an increase in the volume of recyclables coming through
UNCW Recycling Services!!
In order to continue with a successful recycling campaign on campus, we will need to continue
to help UNCW Recycling Services manage the recycling effort. So……..help is always welcome!
Lastly, there are currently a VERY small number of UNCW Recycling Service employees
(2 full-time, 1 part-time). This greatly restricts the quantity and quality of recycling service and
efforts that UNCW offers. We hope to help change this.
